This magnificent sheet of visiting birth made of very fine quality pure linen with beautiful fluidity and fineness in white color with a sumptuous and elaborated embroidery in Richelieu with some grounds who have been decorated and filled with various openwork embroidery representing foliage of flowers that remind of the fleur de lys and scrolls of acanthus leaves, all over the entire width of the front of the sheet and its matching pillowcase.
The two pieces are embellished with a sytem of embroidered loops to slide the silk ribbon of your choice (for the pillowcase, I'll let the pink satin ribbon). A huge monogram adorns the central part, which is encrypted RC in Richelieu embroidery with floral elements.
The piece is finished with a hem folded by hand (it seems that it was not completed in time, it's just a frame). Period 1900
Fully hand-embroidered by fairy fingers! The quality of work of the embroiderer is extraordinary, we can widely imagined the hundreds of hours it has meant to do this masterpiece.
The two pieces are in good condition, to note a little mending I made in the edge of piece at the end of front and the majority of bridles which were broken are now reconnected. There still few that need to be joined in the monogram of the sheet, but nothing too serious to be consolidated with a needle work. 2 minor weaknesses noted on the pillowcase between two passers-by and on the back of the pillow, two small holes to stop, a small tear repaired near the satin ribbon.
This sheet will fit well on a large bed. This set was part of a rich trousseau of the French nobility of Burgundy.
