AN EXCEPTIONAL VICTORIAN BEDCOVER IN FINE COTTON, SO MUCH WORK INVOLVED, HARD TO DESCRIBE. THERE ARE PANELS OF HEAVY BOBIN LACE DOWN BOTH SIDES AND ONE ACROSS UNDER THE PILLOW AREA. INSIDE THIS AREA THERE IS AN OVAL PANEL OF FILLET LACE SURROUNDED BY BOBBIN LACE, ALL OF THIS LACE IN A QUITE HEAVY THREAD. THE MAIN PART IS SECTIONED OFF AT THE CORNERS WITH THE BOBBIN LACE AND IN THE CENTRE IS A LARGE OVAL OF FILLET LACE. SURROUNDING ALL OF THIS THERE IS VERY FINELY DRAWN THREAD WORK, WHITEWORK EMBROIDERY AND CUTWORK EMBROIDERY AND SMALL ROUND INSERTS OF BOBBIN LACE. THE SIDES HAVE THE FINE DRAWN THREAD WORK WHITEWORK CUTWORK AND CIRCLES OF BOBBIN LACE AND END IN A SCALLOPED EDGE WITH BOBBIN LACE AND TASSELS.
THIS WAS MADE FOR A VICTORIAN BEDSTEAD AND THEREFORE IT HAS THE SPLIT TOP AND BOTTOM FOR THE IRON BEDSTEAD TO FIT. THIS IS ALTOGETHER A WONDERFUL PIECE AND WOULD MAKE A LOVELY SHOWPIECE OVER A RICH COLOUR.
THE BEDCOVER IS IN PERFECT CONDITION AND HAS EMBROIDERED LAUNDRY MARKS WHICH I HAVE LEFT IN BECAUSE IT IS PART OF IT`S HISTORY.
I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED IT ON A MODERN DOUBLE BED, IT WOULD LOOK MUCH BETTER ON A BED OF IT`S ERA.
THIS SORT OF ITEM IS NOT EASILY FOUND TODAY, I HAVE OWNED IT FOR MANY YEARS AND LOATHE TO PART WITH IT, BUT IT NEVER GETS USED NOWDAYS AND PERHAPS SOMEONE WOULD APPRICIATE IT`S BEAUTY AND GIVE IT A GOOD HOME.
THE SIZE IS 88" LONG 74" WIDE..
